Description and characteristics

A solution specially designed for the production of prefabricated lightweight blocks and pavers. This cement provides more resistance, reducing the breakage rate during transportation and storage, which allows the product to be sold in less time and thus increase business productivity.

Recommended uses

The Holcim Strong GU Type Cement complies with the provisions of the NTE INEN 2380 norm as a Type GU cement for general use, so it can be used in any type of construction works, such as:

General Recommendations

  • Maintain adequate storage conditions.
  • Use drinking water.
  • Sand and stones must be impurity-free.
  • Perform the design of the proportions of the mixture (concrete or mortar).
  • Use the least amount of water possible; only the necessary for the
  • workability of the mixture.
  • Mix the materials long enough to obtain a uniform mass.
  • Carry out a good placement-process until the formworks are well-filled, without segregation of the concrete.
  • Compact the concrete with suitable procedures according to the
  • consistency of the mixture.
  • Cure the concrete to obtain the specified resistance, keeping the surfaces of the elements moist for at least the first seven days.
  • Avoid the drying of the concrete during its setting and first-hardening.

No chemical requirements are specified for cements for performance in NTE INEN 2380; however, the individual ground and mixed constituents must be analyzed during production.

Bagged cement should be stored in ventilated and moisture-free environments to prevent hydration and settling. It is recommended to stack it for up to 10 sacks and place them on pallets so that the air circulates through the lower part; for this reason, it is recommended not to put the bags against the walls.

When the bagged cement is stored correctly, it can be stored for up to 60 days. It is important to check the date of packaging that appears printed on each package to ensure that the cement that is received is of recent manufacture.

To store cement in bulk, you must have silos of at least 30 tons, considering that this is the average capacity transported by bulk trucks.

Applications of the product

Holcim’s Expert recommends

  • Characterize and classify the soil to stabilize or improve and determine its granulometry.
  • Estimate the initial content of Holcim Base Road according to the recommendations indicated in the type of soil and estimate said content, based on the maximum dry volumetric weight (maximum density) of the soil without the product.
  • Perform tests to determine the maximum dry weight (maximum density) and optimum moisture of the Holcim Base Road mixture.
  • Characterize the already stabilized and improved soil by verifying compliance with established parameters for use in the different layers of the pavement structures.
